VENUES

  • Dedicated to fostering intercultural understanding through the arts, the AKM hosts an extensive permanent collection and rotating exhibitions, as well as a fulsome performing arts programme. A founding partner of GT, AKM hosts daytime showcases in the beautiful Auditorium

  • A City of Toronto-run space, Assembly Hall was built in 1898 as a recreational site for the patients and staff at what was first known as the Mimico Lunatic Asylum and eventually the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital, which closed up in 1979. Early in the millennium it was reinvented as Assembly Hall, and will host daytime showcases at GT23.

  • A gathering space – and home – for a diverse range of music and people, Drom Taberna is a venue, restaurant, and much more; the kind of place that, upon its 5th anniversary celebrations, made us wonder what we did before it opened. Drom will host a conference lunch.

  • An international centre for contemporary arts, culture, and ideas headquartered on 10 acres of Toronto’s waterfront, Harbourfront Centre is the home of the Toronto International Festival of Authors (TIFA), Canada’s largest literary festival and producer of year-round activities that reflect Toronto to its residents, its literature to the nation, and its creative ambition to the world. GT is partnering with TIFA to host conference activities and performances across the venue helping to kick off the 2023 edition of TIFA.

  • Part of the larger Great Hall, and the original gymnasium of the West End YMCA, Longboat Hall is a genuine heritage treasure that dates back to 1889. Since its reinvention the Hall has hosted a range of musical royalty, among which will be some of GT23’s showcasing artists.

  • GT is working in partnership with the Centre for Creative Business Innovation (CCBI), which encourages creative collaboration, applied research and project-based learning, and brings together interdisciplinary teams of students, faculty and industry or community partners to solve complex, real-world problems. One of the CCBI’s key fellowship programs produces the student-run Culture’s Compass arts conference, which is coming together with GT for a day of conference activities.

  • A new independent Black-led and operated, interdisciplinary, multipurpose arts space run by the eponymous and exceptional presenter of music created to fill a major gap in the local ecosystem. GT23 conference activities will be hosted here.

  • While best known as Toronto’s home for salsa, this nightclub and restaurant approaching its two-decade birthday is home to many across the ecosystem. It’s spawned festivals, and a record label, and has long been known as a place to discover great music. Among GT’s founding partners, Lula will host GT evening showcases.

  • The storied home of the renowned 1200-seat Koerner Hall, which has hosted musical greats from across the spectrum, it’s also a 130-year-old training ground for generations of musicians - and the founder of Global Toronto. RCM will host conference activities and daytime showcases in its Mazzoleni Concert Hall and Temerty Theatre.

  • Located on the fourth floor of the new Allied Music Centre building, and connected to the historic and legendary Massey Hall, TD Music Hall is a brand-spanking-new state-of-the-art venue for performances of all kinds. GT23 evening showcases will be held in the space.

  • Nine schools and 27 programs comprise the Creative School – including the new Professional Music program – at Canada’s leading professional schools in media and communication, design and the cultural industries. GT returns to campus for conference activities.
